Is your Nissan Car Key getting stuck in the Ignition in South Wales or Bristol?

It’s not uncommon for cars to have faults, especially when new models are brought out so often. One common fault we know all too well at County Auto Keys is that of the Nissan brand. There have been various reports from Nissan owners that they have difficulty withdrawing keys from the ignition. Whilst some customers have found it hard to remove the key, others have found that they cannot remove it at all.

What Nissan models are affected?

The Nissan models most affected by this common problem is the Qashqai, Micra and Note.

Why is this happening?

If you imagine the inside of the steering lock release block (the part you put your key into when turning on the car), when used over time it gets worn down, like anything that’s used a lot, and creates jagged edges which traps your key inside. You may want to yank the key out, particularly if you’re in a rush or panic, but know that this won’t work and could potentially make the problem worse.

How can I get my Nissan fixed?

Unfortunately, if you find yourself in this situation, the only way to fix the problem is to take the ignition off the car and strip it down so that the key can be removed, which should be done by a professional Auto Locksmith. We then replace the faulty component and refit the ignition, all of which can be done at the roadside.

Some good news is that you won’t require a new key, or the need for your locks to be changed.

We recommend you seek assistance from an Auto Locksmith as soon as you feel your car key becoming sticky in the ignition. This prevents future scenarios such as not being able to start up and use your Nissan car.

If you have a Nissan car and haven’t yet experienced anything mentioned in this blog post, we recommend that you keep an eye on the bow of your key blade. If you see marks or scrapes, it might be worth getting in touch with an Automotive Locksmith, as this could be a sign that your steering lock release block is wearing down.
